FRIDAY NIGHT FRIGHTS: MALL HORROR

"I shop, therefore I am." You can track the rise and fall of shopping malls in America with the rise and fall of shopping mall appearances in movies, especially horror movies–the most zeitgeisty of genres. The modern shopping mall was designed to cater to the shopping needs of adults, which inspired the consumer commentary of Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD, but by the 1980s the shopping mall really came into its own as the stomping grounds of a new generation of teenagers. And true 'mall culture' was born. Join us in the suburban wasteland as we explore both mall culture and the (frankly not big enough) subgenre of MALL HORROR!!

Friday Night Frights is hosted by Josh Miller.
