GIRLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN (1985)

This underrated banger is a sleepover classic, packed with cute young Muppet Baby versions of Hollywood stars you know and love. Sarah Jessica Parker plays Janey, a new transplant to Chicago whose uptight Army dad doesn’t want her to go out with boys OR try out for DanceTV (a popular local series hosted by radio legend Richard Blade). It’s a good thing Janey has a bi-panic-inducing friendship with Catholic school classmate Lynne (Helen Hunt), a punky smart-aleck who wears plastic toys on her head and is good at helping people sneak out of their houses. Essential viewing for those who enjoy dance-offs, class wars, nuns doing gymnastics, cinematic food fights, generation gaps, boob jokes, and teen romance. It also features familiar faces like Jonathan Silverman and an immensely loveable 13-year-old Shannen Doherty.
